Comer Construction has been recognized on the national stage as the recipient of the 2025 NAHB/Builders Mutual Safety Award for Excellence in the category of Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year (Company Over 50 Employees).

Presented by the National Association of Home Builders and sponsored by Builders Mutual, this award honors the top safety programs in residential construction across the country. It highlights companies that go beyond basic compliance and demonstrate a deep, consistent commitment to protecting their people.

For Comer Construction, that commitment starts and ends with the team.

Comer Construction Team

A Culture Built by the Team

Awards like this are never the result of a single policy or department. They reflect daily actions taken across every jobsite.

This recognition belongs to:

  • Supervisors who lead by example
  • Crew members who follow procedures and speak up when something isn’t right
  • Employees who hold each other accountable
  • Team members who prioritize preparation, planning, and communication

At Comer, safety is not treated as a box to check. It is built into the way work is planned, executed, and reviewed. Every project begins with safety in mind, and every employee understands their role in protecting not only themselves, but the people working beside them.

The goal is simple: everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

Representing the Team on a National Stage

Comer Construction’s president, Linda Sue “Susie” Comer and director of safety, Timothy D. Kaptein, CSP, CHST, STS, had the honor of accepting the award in Orlando during the NAHB International Builders’ Show. While they stood on stage to receive the recognition, they represented the efforts of every Comer employee — from leadership to boots on the ground.

Being recognized nationally reinforces what the team already knows: strong safety performance is the result of consistency, discipline, and shared responsibility.

Safety Is Who We Are

Construction carries inherent risk. Managing that risk requires more than rules — it requires culture. Comer Construction continues to invest in training, communication, planning, and continuous improvement to ensure safety remains at the forefront of every project.

This award reflects the high standard set by the entire team and the pride they take in doing the job the right way.

Comer Construction is honored to receive this recognition and even more proud of the people who made it possible.
