What do Smyth Jewelers, Graul’s Market, and American Office have in common with Comer Construction? They are all Baltimore area family-owned businesses that were honored by the Baltimore Business Journal. A total of 13 companies were celebrated during the 2022 Family-Owned Business Awards, including Comer Construction.

As the original announcement stated, “work never stops when you’re a family-run business. Your coworkers — and even your boss — may be sitting across the dinner table from you.” With the second and third generation now working at Comer Construction, we know exactly what that’s like!

The BBJ’s 2022 Family-Owned Business Awards took place on Thursday, March 24th. In addition to the award ceremony, Comer Construction was featured in a special publication. In the article, Susie Comer, president, discusses growing up in the family business and how she still follows her dad’s advice:

“If you do as near right as you can every day you’ll never go wrong,” she said. “I think those are words to live by for always and ever.”
