Comer Construction began work on the Sinai Emergency Department expansion in July 2022, handling utilities, grading, curb and gutter work, sidewalks, and paving. DPR Construction serves as the project’s general contractor.

The $50 million expansion is designed to improve patient experience, and will ultimately double the capacity of the emergency department, expand the trauma center, and provide space for larger patient rooms.  

 

This job requires intense scheduling and coordination of accessibility for the hospital’s emergency room. The magnitude of the project’s scope and integrations with vital operating services require completion in phases.

Comer Construction served as the site work contractor for this $247 million outpatient building and parking garage, providing utility work, stormwater management, demolition, grading, curb and gutter work, material haul-off, sidewalks, and paving.

The 225,000 square foot ambulatory care building replaced another local medical center, while providing increased service capacity. As the largest Kaiser Permanente medical hub in Baltimore County, the facility is equipped to offer a range of vital services including surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic imaging. The center also features 24/7 urgent care, clinical laboratories, oncology pharmacies, chemotherapy services, medical offices, retail space, and a community center.

The facility, which is Kaiser Permanente’s sixth comprehensive care center in the region, features streamlined design for improved operations and the latest advances in healthcare technology, such as real-time mammogram results. It will service nearly 200,000 patient visits per year, with nearly 100 physicians and 250 staff members.

The accompanying 330,000 square foot, seven-story garage features dedicated sections for maternity patients and nearly two dozen electric car charging stations.

The Promise Project, a $166 million development initiative of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, encompasses two significant jobs: The Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building and new main entrance, as well as the Sandra R. Berman Pavilion, the new home of the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute.

Comer Construction is handling curb, gutter, sidewalk and road work for both jobs, as well as utilities, grading, and material haul-off.

The new three-story Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building will feature two acute care units and advanced technology for medical teams, patients, and their families. It will also serve as a stunning new main entrance for the GBMC.

Comer Construction started work at The Homestead Wakefield Elementary School in Bel Air, Maryland during December 2021. 

The Board of Education of Harford County partnered with J Vinton Schafer & Sons Inc. to manage the project, which involved grading and utility work next to the school in preparation for the placement of temporary classroom trailers to be installed by Modular Genius. 

Comer Construction’s scope of work for the first phase of this project included grading, underground utilities, and stormwater management.

The Park School project involves combining two existing buildings to make one larger complex featuring a unique amphitheater.

Supporting general contractor Southway Builders, Comer Construction’s scope of work includes – but is not limited to – excavation, mass and fine grading, storm drain installation, sewer service and stormwater management.

We started with demolition of the current sidewalk patio and slope on the existing building to mass grade the site for retaining walls. Next we focused on stormwater management for walls, and commence building.

Comer Construction is installing storm drain piping and inlets for drainage, and we will backfill, regrade, fine grade and place stone for the concrete company to construct walls and sidewalks.

Comer Construction has been busy with site work at The Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore City since June 2021. The general contractor, Cam Construction, is overseeing the construction of the new school and the rehabilitation of the old school.

Comer Construction, a Maryland women-owned construction company, was tasked with all site construction work for The Park School.

We started with grading and stormwater management in preparation for construction of the new school. To service the building, Comer Construction installed underground utilities. Comer Construction was also tasked with building the curbs, installing gutters, and paving new roads on the property.

To meet Baltimore City requirements, all members of our team passed a background check prior to working on the project.

Now that the new school is built, we’re back on site installing a parking lot and athletic field. This includes additional stormwater management. We’ll finish with additional paving, curbs, and gutter work.
